When people talk about the Kingdom of God or Kingdom of Heaven, we usually think of a ‘someday’, when Jesus comes back to earth, defeats the enemy and brings His Rule and Reign here forever. We don’t usually think the Kingdom of God is happening NOW. But then, Jesus messes up our thinking—
20 Once, on being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The coming of the kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, 21 nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is in your midst.” (Luke 17:21)
The Pharisees were asking Jesus to tell them when the Kingdom of God would come. They wanted to know WHEN and ‘WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?’. Jesus answered them truthfully, that blows our mind away. Jesus said the Kingdom of God is not something that people can point to and say “look there it is!” as if we can see it coming someday in the future, or observe it visibly like an earthly castle. Jesus is saying, if you want to know WHEN the Kingdom of God comes, don’t wait for it to come someday… because it’s already here.
In fact, Jesus said specifically – the Kingdom of God is in your midst. The KJV says “it is within you.” The Amplified says “it is among you [because of My presence]”. The Kingdom of God is here NOW because Jesus’ Presence is within you HERE NOW.
Remember Romans 8:11 “The Holy Spirit who lives in you…” and 1 Corinthians 6 :19 “you are the Temple of the Holy Spirit, whom you have received from God? You are not your own”.
Jesus’ Presence is within you because the Holy Spirit lives within you and makes you His Temple…. So… What is the Kingdom of God? It is every area of your life that is ruled by the Presence and authority of King Jesus.
