I heard about David’s Tent DC way back in 2012 from Karla Viloria (current Co-Youth Minister with her husband Ryan at ROLICF) when it was first established. I heard about the 24-hour worship, 365 days per year. This initially excited me, but the few times my family and I visited the National Mall, I thought about this tent, but did actively look for it. Timing was off…nothing more to say.
Fast forward five years later, I was riding my bike and simply doing what I have passionately done during my elementary through college years – mountain biking…along with the RGC men at the National Mall in DC. On our way back home, I noticed a white tent to my right side…lo and behold David’s Tent! What are the odds? I wasn’t even looking for it!
I called all the bike riders’ attention towards the tent. Amor was the hardest to convince as I had to chase him down to return towards the tent. The minute we walked inside the Tent, you could feel God’s presence as a worship leader was singing songs to our God! We were SOLD! Amor was SOLD!
Acts 15:16-17 says
16 ‘After this I will return
And will rebuild the tabernacle of David, which has fallen down;
I will rebuild its ruins, And I will set it up;
17 So that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord,
Even all the Gentiles who are called by My name,
Says the Lord who does all these things.’
As I sat inside David’s Tent that very first day in July 2017, the words that God impressed upon me were “gateway to reaching out to DC.” At the time, I really didn’t understand what that meant, nor how or why. But I knew one thing…our local church knows worship. So, by empowering Amor to start the process with David’s Tent, we dove in. Within months, we had led worship here four times.
And now, have been given the privilege to staff and lead worship at the Tent on:
February 12, 12am – 4am,
then Feb. 17, 8am – 4pm.
God is positioning us and activating our purpose in this local, yet global region! I am humbled and reminded by this verse:
Psalm 20:4
May He grant you according to your heart’s desire,
And fulfill all your purpose.
As I ponder upon these things, I am very excited for what God is doing…
Faith activated – check!
Hope activated – check!
Purpose activated – check!
